I continued work on my UT application. I wasn't completely satisfied with what I had for my main NPR essay, so I worked on tweaking it. I also continued work on my short answers and began work on my scholarship and honors essays. The five sentences essay posed a challenge for me but I decided to write about albums that are meaningful in my life.

9/1- This Machine Kills Fascists

I began preliminary research on my thesis topic- analyzing the relationship between music and politics decade by decade from the 1940s to the present day. I began by searching music websites such as Pitchfork, Consequence of Sound, and NPR to find articles and editorials that might be of interest to me, as well as to find writers who I could possibly reach out to and contact for mentorship. I found several articles about modern protest music that I can use to discuss current day music and politics. I then started drafting a timeline beginning with the impact of Woody Guthrie and the emergence of protest music in the 1950s. I focused on the history of the song, "This Land is Your Land," and its significance as one of the earliest, most well known protest songs. Now that our book is in the final stages, Ellie and I have been working on getting judges, working on the paper, and the final presentation. There's not much to say about today, as I spent the whole period outlining the paper. I want to discuss our development process, the challenges we faced when coming up with ideas and illustrating, and the message/impact we want our book to have on the kids reading it. These are also the ideas I hope to hit in the presentation.
